The Urban Designer position is concerned with design review for new development projects, long-range and comprehensive planning projects such as neighborhood plans or amendments to the zoning code, and coordination with or management of projects that include urban design issues, for example the Congress Square Redesign or the Complete Streets Design Manual.  The Urban Designer is also staff to the Portland Public Art Committee.  Caitlin began with the City in March of 2013 and her areas of expertise and interest include architecture and urban design, food systems planning, walkability, and land use policy.  Past experience includes private sector architecture work, pro bono community design, urban agriculture and food systems design and research, and planning work at the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
