Strengthening a Remarkable City
Portland is a small city of nearly 30 square miles, set on a peninsula overlooking Casco Bay, with a nighttime population of about 68,000 that swells to over 150,000 during the day. The Portland Fire Department protects a diverse community that contains a major Seaport, Island communities, an International Airport, industrial companies, large areas of residential multi-unit dwellings that consist of numerous tightly packed three- to five-story apartment houses, two major highways and both passenger and freight rail lines.
