As many have read in recent newspaper articles, there are many asylum seekers in Portland who are staying at our Family Shelter and overflow spaces. Many have asked how they can provide support. The City will use any monetary donations received to provide shelter/housing assistance and basic human necessities.
Are you part of a non-profit group who helped us provide assistance to asylum seekers while we operated the Expo shelter? Click here to find out more about our reimbursement program.
The City of Portland is exempt from federal tax in accordance with regulation 26 U.S.C 503(c)(25) as a political subdivision of the State of Maine. Donations may be fully or partially deductible for income tax purposes. However, the City cannot provide you with specific tax advice and you should consult your own tax advisor to determine the deductibility of potential contributions.
