The City of Portland’s Economic Development Division is proposing to develop a 26-acre biotechnology business park on Rand Road. This location will provide quick and easy access to the interstate, as the entrance to the business park is less than 1/4 mile from the access ramp on to Interstate 295. The development concept for the property contains six building parcels along a 980-foot road. The City of Portland, which owns the 26-acre site, will be seeking to sell off the building parcels to companies interested in moving to the park and constructing a building for their operations. Through a zoning amendment the City has cleared the way for biotechnology, nanotechnology, and pharmaceutical firms to engage in production as well as research and development in this office park.
The proposed development site is adjacent to over 200 acres of Resource Protection Area, including an Audubon Sanctuary and numerous wooded trails. For this and other reasons, there is an interest in incorporating green building technology in this business park. At this time, the City and its consultants are working on understanding the location and size of building envelopes that each of the six parcels could accommodate. Businesses that wish to find out more information about the Rand Road office park are invited to contact the City’s Economic Development Division.
