The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Committee is a standing committee of the Portland City Council. The Committee serves as a forum to review, recommend and approve environmental projects and sustainability initiatives. Its goal is to make Portland a sustainable community by reducing our City's environmental footprint by minimizing our greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the volume of waste we generate, promoting the local economy and protecting our environment.

Energy Efficiency Resources

PACE The City of Portland City Council approved the PACE ordinance on October 18, 2010 and has contracted with Efficiency Maine to administer the PACE Program. Please contact Efficiency Maine for more information on the PACE program and how to participate.
 
Local Funding The City of Portland has numerous grants and loan programs available to qualifying homeowners or perspective homeowners through Housing and Neighborhood Services to improve energy efficiency in your home. Please see their website for more information.
 
Efficiency Maine Residential Programs Efficiency Maine has numerous programs available for energy efficiency at your home. Please see their website for more information.
 
Efficiency Maine Business Programs Efficiency Maine has numerous programs available for energy efficiency at your place of work. Please see their website for more information.
 
Natural Gas Customers and Conversion to Natural Gas Residential and Commercial natural gas customers and those converting to natural gas may be eligible for rebates through Gas Networks for high efficiency equipment replacement, infrared heater installations, food service equipment installations, and thermostat installations. Maine Housing Energy Assistance Programs Qualifying residents may be eligible for the Maine State Housing Authority Energy Assistance Programs including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), weatherization program, and appliance replacement program.
