Where is smoking prohibited (not allowed)?

This ordinance prohibits smoking:



  • at or within 20 feet of City of Portland owned or maintained public playgrounds, beaches, athletic facilities,

  • in City parks and open spaces,

  • on City owned or maintained trails.

Public Playgrounds:  Smoking is prohibited on
or within 20 feet of playgrounds and play areas that are owned or maintained by
the City of Portland.  If the playground is located within a park, smoking
is prohibited in the entire park.

Beaches:  Smoking is prohibited on or within 20 feet
of East End Beach. 


Athletic Facilities:  Smoking is prohibited in
most of City of Portland owned or maintained athletic facilities. 
“Athletic facilities” means all ball fields, courts and their spectator area(s),
for example bleachers.  Click herefor a complete list of athletic facilities. If the athletic facility is located within a park, smoking is prohibited in the entire park.


City Parks, Trails and Open Spaces: Smoking is
prohibited in most city parks and open spaces. It is also prohibited on city
owned or maintained trails.
