[ARCHIVED] Fill the Bus!

Kiwanis, Staples and Hannaford team up to ‘Fill the Bus’ with school supplies for Portland kids most in need!  From August 9‐14, the Kiwanis of Portland are teaming up with Staples Connect in Falmouth and South Portland as well as Hannaford in their West Falmouth and Forest Avenue stores to get school supplies into the hands of the neediest children in the Portland Public Schools and their teachers.

The “Fill the Bus” school‐supply campaign asks donors shopping for their own supplies to buy a few extra items and leave them with volunteers parked outside the stores. Staples is offering School Supply Boxes for $5. Each box contains 19 necessary items to help students start the school year. All boxes donated during the week will be forwarded to the Portland Kiwanis. Cash donations are also welcome. A van will visit each of the participating locations and be parked from 11 am until 3 pm. Please visit our website or follow us on Facebook to learn exact locations and times. Portland Kiwanis (

In addition, a large school bus will be parked at VIP Charter just off Franklin Street, from August 4 through August 20. Donors are welcome drop donations at VIP.

The campaign kicks off at 11 am August 9 at the Kiwanis Pool on Douglass Street in Portland, and there will be a closing ceremony at the pool on August 14. At the campaign’s conclusion, the gathered supplies will be delivered to Portland Public Schools for distribution.

Please help us spread the word to the generous greater Portland community. For more information, please contact Bob Pineau, Kiwanis President at
