Mackworth-Ocean-Walton CSO Separation Project

The Portland Department of Public Works would like to provide a status update regarding the project.

Beginning the week of April 27, 2020, the contractor Gorham Sand and Gravel will be starting work on Mayland St, Irving St, and Forest Avenue. Work on Mackworth St will start sometime in June. This project will take 2 years to complete with final completion on or before July 2022.

Work will begin by erecting traffic control signs and marking out utilities. Temporary water lines will then be installed to each of the houses. The project calls for the installation of new storm drains, sewer, catch basins, water main, and the streets will be repaved at the completion of the project.

The Portland Water District will also be replacing the water main as well as the house water service lines to each residence from the main in the street to the water service box shutoff typically located near the City’s property line.

Project work will typically run from 7:00am to 7:00pm during the project. The contractor will be required to keep driveway access open to all driveways unless it is necessary to close in order to complete a section of the work. If the contractor needs to interrupt driveway access sufficient notice will be given prior to the disruption.

During the project the streets will be posted “No Parking” as necessary during construction activities. This is done to protect your vehicles and to make moving around the site easier and safer for the contractor. We restrict parking only when absolutely necessary, so please make sure you read the signs. Vehicles will be towed if in violation. If your vehicles can’t be parked off the road we would suggest you park on one of the adjacent streets and walk to your home. You will have access to driveways on a daily basis. The contractor will be stockpiling necessary materials for the project along the side of the road within the City right of way. The contractor will be using heavy equipment during the project.

We ask you to use caution when driving through the work zones and be aware of equipment and personnel for the safety of all.

Drivers and residents should expect lane closures and traffic delays on all project streets during construction hours. Please be sure to check the City’s website regularly for project traffic updates.

Trash and recycling pickup for all streets will remain the same. Please make sure both trash and recycling are at your curb by 6:00 am.

This notice shall also serve as an official 60 day notice that the streets will be under the City’s 5 year paving moratorium following the completion of the project.

Once the moratorium is in place it will be substantially more expensive to obtain a City street opening permit and excavate into the street.
