[ARCHIVED] Franklin Street Light Upgrades

traffic alert

A City-sponsored project is underway to provide traffic signal updates along Franklin Street.  New communications equipment, vehicle detection, and state-of-the-art intelligent traffic control technology is being installed over the next several weeks from Commercial Street to Marginal Way. Following the installation period, the new equipment will be monitoring the traffic volumes throughout the day and night to create a database of travel patterns. Later on this winter, the system will be activated. The goal will be to reduce travel times along Franklin Street, particularly during peak periods of congestion. While growth in traffic and continued reliance on single-occupancy motor vehicles ensures some congestion will remain, it is our hope that noticeable improvements will result from this relatively low-impact project.
