[ARCHIVED] Motley St Geotechnical Investigations

The City of Portland Public Works would like to inform you of upcoming geotechnical investigation work on Motley Street. This work is being completed as part of the design of an upcoming storm drain installation and sewer replacement project.

As part of the project design, the City’s contractor Nothern Test Boring will be drilling test bore holes in Motley Street spaced every 25’ along the street to help the City gain an understanding of the street’s subsurface conditions. The borings will provide information on the existing pavement depth, underlying soil condition, presence and depth of groundwater and the presence and depth of bedrock. The collection of this data is an important step in the design of underground sewer pipe systems and street reconstruction.

The borings are completed through the use of a small drilling auger. Northern Test Boring plans to complete this work the week of June 24th, 2019. The drilling should be completed within one work day once the contractor mobilizes to the site. The work will be completed between 7am-7pm per the City of Portland Street Opening Ordinance.

The City of Portland Public Works Department plans to hold a neighborhood meeting in mid-July at Deering High School to discuss the project. A subsequent notice will be sent out to residents once the meeting details have been confirmed.
