City Celebrates National Public Health Week April 1 - 7

NEWS ALERT

The City of Portland’s Public Health Department is celebrating National Public Health Week April 1 - 7 and invites the public to join in.

Help kick off the week by taking a "tour" of Portland’s Public Health Division to see all they have to offer on Monday, April 1 from 9 AM - 11 AM in the Rotunda of Portland City Hall. Prevention specialists from the Substance Use Prevention Program will provide tips for talking to youth about substance use, as well as safely storing your prescription medications. People will also have the opportunity to bike their way to a healthy and delicious smoothie, courtesy of the Obesity Prevention Program. Staff from the Maternal Child Health Program will be onsite to offer the basics of infant CPR, and the Minority Health Program will provide information for accessing their services. Join the Public Health Division for all of this and MUCH more and enter to win some fun and health-focused prizes!

On Tuesday, April 2, the public is invited to attend an educational session by Through These Doors (formerly Family Crisis Services). The session is called Domestic Violence Doesn't Stay at Home. Come and learn how to support co-workers who may be experiencing domestic violence. The session will be held at 2 PM in the State of Maine Room on the 2nd floor of City Hall.
