[ARCHIVED] Mayor Strimling Gives Fourth State of the City Address

Mayor Ethan K. Strimling delivered his fourth State of the City address on January 14, 2019 in the Council Chamber at City Hall. The address focused heavily on the city’s strengths and recent successes as well as the policy goals the Mayor would like to see implemented to meet remaining challenges. It was developed based on hundreds of conversations that the Mayor has had over the course of the year with constituents throughout the city.

“I’m very proud of what we have achieved for our city in the past three years,” said Mayor Ethan Strimling. “We’ve done a lot, but we can’t rest on our laurels. We have to keep going.”

In the speech, Mayor Strimling outlined five major policies he’d like the city to pursue, including further climate change action; education funding, including universal free pre-K for all four year olds in Portland; additional affordable housing; earned paid sick time for all workers; and inclusive transparent democracy.
