City Council Approves Changes to Short-Term Rental Rules

news alert

The Portland City Council approved changes to its short-term rental rules during its November 19, 2018 meeting. Contrary to what was originally reported in the Portland Press Herald on November 20, individual property owners will still be able to register up to five short-term rentals per year subject to the other restrictions in the ordinance. The Council also increased the cap on non-owner occupied mainland short-term rental units from 300 to 400 units, and also made some changes to the application requirements and fee structure. The new ordinance provisions will go into effect on December 19, 2018 - 30 days from the Council’s approval.

City staff are currently accepting registrations for new units. Renewal applications are not due until February 1, 2019, and the City will send out renewal notices in the middle of December with the new applications.
