State Street Closure - from Cumberland Avenue to Deering Street - to Start Thursday, November 2nd

Beginning on Thursday, November 2, the State Street Infrastructure Improvements project work between Cumberland Avenue and Deering Street will begin. The work will require the full shutdown of the Cumberland Avenue/State Street intersection and State Street from Cumberland Avenue to Deering Street. This work includes the installation of a new sanitary sewer, storm drain, Portland Water District water main and Unitil gas main across the intersection.  


IMPORTANT INFO FOR MOTORISTS:  Motorists are encouraged to stay clear of the area and find other avenues into town.  Work will be conducted between 7am and 7pm Monday-Friday and 8am-7pm on Saturdays; however the closed segment of roadway won’t reopen until all of the utility work is complete.  

IMPORTANT INFO FOR RESIDENTS:  The contractor will be required to maintain local traffic access onto State Street and the surrounding side streets during this closure.      

 

DETOUR INFORMATION

Inbound State Street motorists are directed to use Mellen Street to Deering Street to State Street to bypass the work zone.  Westbound Cumberland Avenue motorists are directed to use High Street to Park Avenue to Mellen Street to bypass the work zone.  Eastbound Cumberland Avenue motorists are directed to use the Mellen Street to the Deering Street to State Street Detour to access Congress Street heading east.
