Portland to be in National Spotlight with Visit from C-Span Cable Channel

Mayor Ethan Strimling and Charter will welcome C-SPAN to Portland on Monday, July 17 at 3:00 PM in the State of Maine Room at City Hall as they kick off a visit to record the history and non-fiction literary life of the city on the cable network’s non-fiction book channel BookTV (on C-SPAN2, Charter channels 98 and 226) and history channel American History TV (on C-SPAN3, Charter channel 227).


This event in the State of Maine Room is open to the public. 

 

In conjunction with its Charter cable partners, C-SPAN producers will reveal the stories and segments that will be explored by the national network.  During their time in Portland, C-SPAN producers will visit various literary and historic sites, interview local historians, non-fiction authors and conduct educational and community outreach in the area.

 

Local segments recorded during the week of July 16-20 will air on BookTV and American History TV throughout C-SPAN's special Portland weekend, October 21-22. C-SPAN programming is available on the Charter channels 16 and 225 in Portland.

BACKGROUND:

C-SPAN’s 2017 Cities Tour takes Book TV and American History TV on the road. BookTV (on C-SPAN2) and American History TV (on C-SPAN3) are featuring the literary life and history of each of these selected cities during special weekends on the public affairs network.

 

AIR DATES:

The programs C-SPAN produces in Portland will air throughout a special Portland feature weekend October 21-22--literary programming on Book TV (on C-SPAN2, Charter channels 98 and 226) and history programming on American History TV (on C-SPAN3, Charter channel 227).  C-SPAN is available in Portland on Charter channels 16 and 225.
