The City of Portland’s Riverside Golf Course is one of 58 grant recipients in 31 states to receive funds from the Feed a Bee Forage Grant Initiative. The course received the maximum award amount of $5,000.

The grant funds are being used to plant pollinator forage throughout the 215-acre golf course. More than 150 pollinator friendly plants and trees of different varieties will be planted this year.

The course will be transitioning nine acres of currently maintained turf to dedicated pollinator forage areas.

Beginning this year, the course is keeping honey bee hives on the golf course. Currently, there is one hive located on the course. A second hive will be located later this summer. Next year the course will be placing an additional four hives on the course.
